Body Image and Eating Disorder Prevention Chatbot JEM™
We know that many people of all ages, gender identity, body size, sexuality, and cultural backgrounds are concerned about body image and eating issues.
We’re here to help!
Professor Gemma Sharp and her team led the development of a world-first body image and eating disorder prevention chatbot called JEM™ who provides a 24/7 freely available voice of positive body image and eating disorder prevention where people need it most – online.
JEM™ chatbot was originally developed at Monash University and is now owned and managed by Professor Gemma Sharp.
JEM™ was co-designed with young people aged 13 and over and their supporters. This means that JEM™ can have conversations with people seeking help for themselves or a loved one.
These conversations focus on education about body image concerns and eating disorders, as well as brief coping skills. The chatbot's conversations follow evidence-based practice according to RANZCP's Eating Disorders Clinical Practice Guideline.
JEM™ chatbot is “rule-based”. This means that all of JEM™ chatbot’s conversations have been pre-programed by Professor Gemma Sharp’s research team. The chatbot cannot come up with its own responses.
